In ' Intentional and Unintentional' Jan uses gestures and lines within a set of rules to create a new larger scale series. The pieces are not an exercise in perfection and show the vagaries of individual pen strokes, levels of ink and the control of the hand. As Agnes Martin said "mistakes evoke the human spirit"; but here also show the endeavour and human labour within the work. The act of mark making is integral to Jan's practice and allowing the viewer to observe the work in progress during the exhibition will allow communication between artist and viewer.
